Google AI says "The TEAC A-4010GSL is a highly popular, classic 4-track, 2-channel stereo reel-to-reel tape deck manufactured in Japan between 1973 and 1976. Representing the third and final evolution of TEAC's legendary 4010 series, the GSL variant introduced several premium upgrades over the earlier S and SL iterations. Employs a dual-speed hysteresis synchronous capstan motor alongside two eddy-current outer-rotor reel motors. Equipped with 4 factory upgraded wear-resistant GSL ferrite heads with permalloy cores. Supports bidirectional playback automatically via foil sensing tape or manual button switching. Includes a dedicated record-pause button, timer adapter, and quick-lock reel tabs." Overall appearance is fair, needs cleaning. Wood cabinet is solid but has some veneer missing. Front panel very good, markings are excellent. Counter works. Control panel will be excellent after removal of tape residue and cleaning. Markings are excellent. Both meters worked in testing, Right meter is missing the cover. Chassis is very dusty, no rust. Basic forward playback operation has been tested and it works with one exception. The pinch roller is very hard to move. To correct this problem the old, hard grease needs to be removed. There is at least one video online showing the hard way(from inside) to do this but Google's AI has an easier method (from the front). Stop button binds so all testing was done using the power button to stop. Tested as described but, to the best of my knowledge, has not been recapped or checked for safety. Sold as-is for restoration or parts. Missing power cord. Moderate mildew odor. Approximate size 17.5"W, 10"D, 17.5"H. Item #10731
